Broiler Seminar

Broiler Seminar

Sales manager André Mofid together with Ali Jahedi, the company’s sales representative in Iran held a seminar in Qom, Iran. Several times a year these meetings are held in different cities throughout Iran. The Qom Seminar attracted over 70-80 visitors and was organized together with a university and professor.

Looking at details for improving results

In this presentation the focus was on the stages in the growth of the broilers until their final weight, looking specifically at management techniques to improve or to find solutions to current problems. With very high mortality rates in the Qom area, bio-security was also an important topic.

First, the discussion started with the look at the genetic potential of the breeds, as they have vastly improved over the years, meaning that they are much more capable. This has both pros and cons – the pro being that in shorter periods the broiler can reach their target weight, but it also means that the management, equipment and environment need to follow suit and have to be adequately designed.

Second, the discussion on the importance of the brooding period and the important aspects, astonished many of the farmers and veterinarians at the venue. As the potential of the birds is so high, most of it is lost in the first few days and extra attention needs to be laid at this.

Third, ventilation, always a problem in countries with hot weather, was the most important discussion point. With the discussion first looking at minimum, then at maximum ventilation. Asking many of the farmers to state their farm info, Mr. Mofid pointed out that none of the farms had either minimum nor maximum ventilation, but it looked like it. With the help of a customer from the area, this information could be shared and the farmers were impressed with the results of Big Dutchman’s client.

Lastly, there was an open discussion regarding any further points, as there were also some layer and breeder farmers.

Sharing information

Mr. Mofid and Mr. Jahedi are keen to share their knowledge, as it helps them continue business as well as improve the Iranian poultry sector and become more competitive. Mr. Mofid stated “Every time we make these seminars, almost everything we talk about is completely new to all present. We need to discuss everything in detail and show videos and pictures to make the points clear.”

A local veterinarian stated that “I have been in this business 15 years, and have not had the chance learn so much about broilers in such a short time-span. I will invite Big Dutchman to meet some of my customers”. Another farmer asked “Why don’t any of the local companies have any of this information. I have lost so much money, but they helped me look at some simple tools to improve the situation at my farm”.

Mr. Mofid and Mr. Jahedi were very happy with the outcome and the farmers all stated the positive outcome of the seminar.
